Battle of the Dupes: MAC Formidable vs Misa Embroidered Emerald vs Orly Galaxy Girl

This series of the battle of the dupes is making me wonder again why I went through the hassle of getting the MAC VV polishes...

MAC Formidable

Misa Embroidered Emerald
This one was on my 2009 Top 20 list.
Loved it. Still do =)

Orly Galaxy Girl

Pinky and Index: Misa Embroidered Emerald
Ring: MAC Formidable
Middle: Orly Galaxy Girl

Each one was 4 coats + 1 coat SV

Embroidered Emerald is the most distinct of the 3 polishes.
The new pigment that is being used in the MAC and Orly ones kinda creates a foil/sparkly look while the Misa one is more of a steady shimmer.
Plus the shimmer in the Misa one comes across more greenish while the other 2 flash teal.

Also, in the bottle, the teal flash in the MAC bottle appeared a little more pronounced as compared to Orly Galaxy Girl.
However, on the nails, they're really almost identical.

Oh well. If MAC had the villians printed onto the bottles,
I would have held on to the bottles.
As it is now, I'm throwing out 2 outta the 3.

Battle of the Dupes: MAC Mean and Green vs Orly Space Cadet

A comment by one of my readers prompted me to go through my own stash for all the dupes that were being released this year.
And yeah. Its been a hell of a years for duping too...
*wonders why I bought all these dupes too*

So I'm going to start going through all of them,
and hopefully purge some of those too!

MAC Mean and Green
Hell. I actually bought 2 bottles of this!
Got caught up in the craze and whirlwind that surrounded the MAC VV Collex
and for the 1st time in my life,
went to queue for make-up before the stores open.
*wonders again why the hell I did that*

VS Orly Space Cadet.
NB went ga-ga over this one until the MAC dupe turned up

and here they are on the nails.
Can you even tell them apart?

Both are 3 coats each + 1 coat SV

Though I very much preferred the Orly one.
Space Cadet applied much better as compared to the MAC one.
Plus I think MAC forgot about the QC in all the VV whirlwind.
The 1 bottle that I opened came with a wonky brush.
So did my bottle of Formidable.
Boo. MAC. If you are going to price your polishes higher than the average,
you should jolly well make sure your brushes are good to go.

Just in case you're still wondering,
its Orly on the Pinky and Middle fingers,
MAC on the Ring and Index.

Sally Hansen Purple Gala

Another lemming killed courtesy of wonderful NB'ers!
Sally Hansen Purple Gala

3 coats + 1 coat SV

My bottle started turning goopy by the 2nd coat,
a problem I have with most of the Xtreme Wear line...

but otherwise a totally awesome colour
I had it on for 3 days straight and still couldn't stop staring at my nails
especially when under direct sun.
Awesome Sparkly!

Though I have to confess.
I've only managed to narrow down my initial list of top 60 to top 40.
Its going to be damn hard to kill off another 20...

2010's been a damn good polish year ain't it!

Sally Hansen Mystic Lilac

Again courtesy of another swap.
Thank goodness for you wonderful ladies.
Else I would never have gotten my hands on such pretties!

Sally Hansen Mystic Lilac

I don't usually like the formulae on these Sally Hansens,
especially those from the Xtreme Wear range.
But there are always times when I put up with it cos of the awesome colours.

This one took me 3 coats.
I contemplated doing a 4th but well...
I was being lazy. Again.

Love the green shimmer in this one.
Very unique combination with the dusty lilac base.
I thought of this as a cousin to the awesome RBL Scrangie.

Can you guys guess which swatch is coming up next?

Ulta Tainted Love

My first set of polishes from Ulta came from a swap with a lovely reader =)
and I really wanted this set for the polish below.

Ulta Tainted Love.
Particularly since I couldn't get my hands on SH Project Runway.
Also cos the song with the same title is one of my faves.

2 coats + 1 coat SV

I should probably have done a 3rd coat,
but I really hated the brush the mini bottle came with.

Otherwise it definitely killed my lemming for the SH one.

and definitely making it to my top 20 list.

RBL Anne

RBL Anne

2 coats + 1 coat SV

By request of a colleague who saw the bottle sitting on my work desk

We both decided that it looked better in the bottle than on the nails

By the way, nail board is calling for the top 20 nominations
While trying to narrow mine down,
I went through some of my older photos
and kinda decided that I probably have to re-do quite a bit of them.
My photography skills were pretty bad then =P

Plus there are some that I still haven't swatched,
but am about 80% sure that they might make the list

So you guys might be getting a slew of swatch posts instead of the nail art ones k

Rainbow French

Only managed to get 3 shots before my camera battery died on me.
Thankfully, all 3 shots turned out okay.

As you can see, I'm still in a "rainbow" frame of mind =)

Base is 1 coat of Orly Bare Rose.
Then I just grabbed my nail art stripers and started on the funky french

Again this one grabbed a lot of attention in the office.
and some of my colleagues couldn't decide which rainbow one they preferred more.

Nature Republic FGR601

It felt like its been a while since I put on an Asian polish.
Plus yesterday was the first sunny day I experienced since the last week,
so I took the opportunity to put on a holo

This one is from Nature Republic: FGR601.
(Do you guys still wanna hear my lament about numbers instead of names?)

3 coats, no topcoat

Not too bad a colour,
but somehow it didn't rock my boat.
Might be cos I was still reeling from the previous bright rainbow mani

Application was great.
In fact, I would say its on par with the OPI DS range.
These are probably the only holos that I don't have a problem with dragging and streaking while applying.

And here's a short clip on it =)

For CT: Misa Road Warrior

Hey babe,
Its been a hectic time around work
and there are many many changes and re-structuring that's going to happen.
Part of the busy-ness that we are going through is a result of the coming changes.

Don't worry about us here though.
In spite of all the running around and deadlines,
we also been finding the time to get together and have fun.
The only thing is that I missed having you around in the fun and photos.

I hope by the time you read this, your infection is under control.
Be strong k babe.
You're almost at the last leg of the chemo cycles.
I'm very worried about you and Shanti.
I'll keep you posted about her condition too.

So today, I have for you this polish by Misa again.
Its called Road Warrior and I purposely saved this until now.

The last leg is usually one of the hardest.
Don't lose hope.

You're the warrior in this.

We love you babe.

Rainbow Nails

Inspired by my colleague who asked if I had ever done clouds and rainbows

Polishes used are:

Revlon Streetwear Taxi

Mac Cabaret

Essence Break Through

Zoya Yummy

and Essie Pretty Edgy

and here's the rainbows =)

Please do ignore the dry skin.
I finished washing up some stuff but was running late for an appointment
so I didn't have the time to grab my moisturizer.

Anyway, this mani sure did grab a lot of attention.
Everyone including the security guards at my workplace noticed it!
