Pedicure from the Past: LA Girl Metallic Purple

Just a quick post today
Its toes again so skip it if you wanna

LA Girl Metallic Purple,
2 coats, with topcoat.

Taken indoors:

Indoors, with camera flash.

I don't own any of the OPI suedes (though I would very much love too),
but this one reminds me of the finish of the OPI Suedes that I've been seeing in other blog pictures.
Would be great if someone could do a comparison =)

What happens when you get a Wonky French

I'm pretty sure everyone of you who do your own nails regularly would have days when things just seem to go wrong;
the colour looks awful, application is a pain in the ass, it keeps bubbling, you bash the fresh paint on the chair, the nail art go awry, and the list goes on...

well... that's what happened to me while doing this
and the nail art is the result of all the mistakes:
1st, I bashed the tips while trying to put the camera aside
I thought: nevermind, I'll just cover it up with a french.
However, my neighbours dropped a couple of stuff (not once, not twice but 4 times!)
and I jumped at the sudden noise.

Yeah, you guessed it.
My lines went all wonky and I smudged the right pinky all over again
Besides, the colour combo looked kinda weird
More cover-up to be done,
and here's the resulting nail art

Natural daylight.

well... it ain't the best tutorial but I kinda like the end result,
so I thought I'll just share it anyway =)

Polishes used:
Orly Purple Crush,
OPI Alphine Snow,
Art Club stripers in Red on Red, Orchistra, Yellow, Black, Solid Silver,
and lastly a no name pink glitter striper

Step 1: Paint base coat and base colour.
Wait a while to dry

Step 2: Paint the french tips.
Wait a while to dry.

You might wanna refer to the earlier tutorial on painting a french mani that I did.
And erm.... pls do ignore the wonky lines here =P

Can you see the smudge on the pinky?

Step 3: Using various coloured striper polishes, add on the lines at the french tips.
Note that the stripes don't have to be of even thickness, you can vary between thick and thin lines

Step 4: And if you do end up with wonky lines like I did here, you can always cover it up using the nail art striper.
Paint your topcoat and you're done!

Alternatively, you can also cover up the wonky french using rhinestones or pearls

Well, if you're like me who sometimes finds it a pain to re-paint,
I hope this gives you some idea how you might be able to salvage the paint job the next time something goes wrong =)

Orly Purple Crush

So I haven't been giving Orly as much attention or love as OPI
Sure I love my OPIs, but sometimes I do think they're a little over-rated,
especially in Singapore, where almost every other nail salon you see carries only OPI.
Its rare to find nail salons here using something else like Essie, Orly or even Misa.

Well, I realised that I've been blogging quite a bit on OPIs myself,
not surprising since they're the most easily available for me.
I have much less Misa, Orlys and China Glaze than I really would like to.
So for this week, I'm going to use any other brand except OPIs

To start off this week then, I have Orly Purple Crush.
erm... I love the colour but there's no way I'm calling this purple, its way too pink for that.
In fact, Berry Crush might be a better name for this one.
Pictures are all 2 coats, without topcoat.

Pictures all taken in natural sunlight,
but the 3rd and 4th pictures are slightly more colour accurate.

Last picture taken indoors

I've done some nail art using this
Post will be up tomorrow =)

The reason for my no/low-buy Part 1

Right, so I went a little crazy hauling...
but there were so many purges, sales, lemmings and new collections!
What am I supposed to do?! =P

NARS Tokaido Express,
Illamasqua Phallic,
and Sephora by OPI Absinthe Makes the Heart

Sheri, thanks so much for this!
I never thought I'll get my hands on them!
*muacks* =)

Then I got these off purge lists:

4 bottles of Sinful for only US$1!
How am I supposed to resist that?

#146 Kansas,
#203 Agaci,
#142 Pearl Harbour,
and #79 Opal Glitter

Essie Lacy not Racy,
Colour Club Groove Thang,
OPI Will You Mari-Achi Me?,
OPI Sheer Your Toys,
and OPI Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not

Then I finally caved and got some Nfu-Ohs

and #60

then I spotted China Glaze Aqua Baby hiding in a corner of the shop.
The Zoya Suvi is courtesy of Flinty from the blog Polish or Perish

My best friend Gerry gave me a nail art book for Christmas! =)

Sample page from the book.
I'm in love with the black and white one on the top left corner!

well... I don't wanna think how much I spent on polishes this Christmas
and I still have some colour clubs and china glazes on their way...

Christmas 2009 Mani and Pedi

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas =)

For my Christmas Mani, I used 2 of my fave glitter polishes:

China Glaze Emerald Sparkle,
Colour Club Ruby Slippers.
And I did a matching creme pedicure with Nubar Forest and OPI Vodka and Caviar

I'll just let the pictures speak for how pretty these polishes are =)

OPI Merry Midnight vs Sasatinnie Purple Flakie

Merry Christmas to everyone who's reading this!
May this festive season bring joy, peace and health to you and all your loved ones!

Since it was Christmas I thought I'll do one from the OPI's christmas collections,
plus I've read so much rave about OPI Merry Midnight,
I'm kinda excited about it.
Then while digging through my stash looking for it,
I came across the Sasatinnie one (which I had forgotten all about)
and thought, "hey! this looks so much like Merry Midnight!"

Check out the bottle comparison pictures,
they do look dupish right?

Thumb, Middle and pinky: OPI Merry Midnight
Index and Ring fingers: Sasatinnie
All are done in 3 coats, with topcoat

ok, the 3 sunlight pictures make it look like they're 2 different polishes
but in real life, both are pretty similar.
Probably has something to do with the camera being unable to capture purple properly.

OPI Merry Midnight is pretty colour accurate in the pictures.
In comparison, its slightly more red-tinged (perhaps why the camera picked it up rather well)
The Sasatinnie one perhaps a shade blue-er, and this gives it a deeper look actually.
Plus the flakies are more pronounced in the Sasatinnie one.

2 indoor comparison shots taken in artificial light.

The only complaint I have is both don't seem to wear well on me.
There's tipwear and its only been a day!
Don't really mind that though since both are such lovely colours

well, I was thinking that if they were dupish, I'll give one of them up
but right now, I'm in love with both of these!

p/s: I mega-hauled this week.
It's so bad I'm imposing another no/low buy on myself =P
