Wan's Lattice Version 2

It was a overcast sky the morning I did this tutorial.
So the pictures aren't the best k

Bottles used:

OPI Alphine Snow,
and Ciate Paint Pots 042 Guest List

Swatch of Guest List in whatever little sun there was.
2 coats, no topcoat.

Guest List swatch taken indoors.
Although my hand looks red here, this is a slightly more colour accurate swatch.

Guest List is a very dark burgandy that looks almost black.
At first glance, it reminded me of OPI Suzy Says Da!
but on comparison, Guest List is slightly more red-tinged

So here is version 2 of Wan's Lattice mani

1st 2 pistures taken in the sun,
and the next 2 are indoor pictures.

Here's the tutorial for this set of nail art:

Step 1: Paint base coat and base colour.
Wait a while to dry.

Note: I think this particular nail art would look best with polishes that are cremes.

Step 2: Using a dotting tool,

proceed to make a line of dots down the middle of your nail.
Try to get the dots as evenly spaced out as you can.

Step 3: Do another line of dots on either side of the 1st line.
Note that I placed these dots roughly in the middle of the spacing in-between the original line of dots.

Step 4: Pick another dotting tool that is smaller than the original,

Alternatively, you can also use a nail art pen
(mine is from Etude House)

proceed with smaller dots that connect the bigger ones in a zig-zag manner.

In the picture above, my pinky was done using the dotting tool
while the ring finger is done using the nail art pen.

Step 5: Repeat the same for all nails.
Step 6: Wait awhile to dry before painting on topcoat

Hope you like this =)

Kitoko Kalani

I'm still on a no-buy,
but I saw these and I got curious.
Since they were 2 for $5 only, I grabbed 2 to try

Kitoko Kalani no. 1235 and no. 1242
well... I'm assuming these are the correct no.s since I didn't see any other name or code.

The salegirl explained that these are from Korea.
I didn't see a lot of variety in colours though.
The display consisted mostly of reds, pinks, nudes and some browns.
All pretty safe work colours.

The 2 that I got, I grabbed cos a)they were really cheap
and b) they had those tiny micro glitter in them (see the next pic)

Also, no. 1242 reminded me of one of the OPIs in the Japan exclusive Yokohama Collection.

Bottle comparison between OPI I Love Yokohama and No. 1242.

As you can see, OPI I Love Yokohama is more pinkish and has silver micro glitters.
No. 1242 has gold mirco glitters.

Tip Teal

ok, so you guys know that I just changed jobs.
It looks like the new place is a little more conservative about nail colours.
They're not very strict but as part of the job scope, I will be meeting with quite a lot of people in the community including employers, school authorities, volunteers, vendors, etc etc
so while nail colours like sheers, reds, pinks, purples, browns are going to be ok
funkier colours like green, blue, black are going to have to be relegated to holidays and weekends k

erm... unfortunately, this also means the monday tutorials are going to be less funky as well

Also, I suspect that I'll be way busier than I was as a school counsellor
so you guys might get to see less nail art and more single polish colour swatches
The nail art might also get less complicated

I'll try to work around and see what I can do
so in the meantime, pls bear with me during this adjustment period k

all right, back to the nails then.
Polishes used for today's nail art:

Depend no 41 (for the toes),
OPI Teal the Cows Come Home,
Art club nail art stripers in Solid Silver, Azure and Midnight Blue

Swatch of OPI Teal the Cows Come Home.
3 coats, no Topcoat.

These are indoor swatches:

and here's the pedicure swatch of Depend no 41

I go this one in my Christmas axchange from Polish Pig
and I understand that Depend is a low cost Swedish brand.
I must say I'm pretty impressed by it.
For a low-cost polish, the quality is anything but low.
The formula is rather smooth and my pedi was opaque in 2 coats.
The brush itself is pretty easy to use
although I suspect some may have issues with it since it is a little short (but not as bad as the WnW Craze bottles)

I don't know yet if I will end up with smurf toes
but hey, I don't really mind that when the colour is this pretty and glowy =)
now I can't wait to try to other orange one!

and continuing with the french theme for this week,
here's the NAOTD:

1st 2 pictures in sunlight

next 2 pictures are taken indoors

Maybelline Matte Grape

So the disaster nails didn't last for 24 hours.
Just couldn't take it anymore and I had to remove it.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the time for nail art
so instead, I slopped on a quick dry polish
and made do with it for a while.

Maybelline Matte Grape

Sad to say, we hardly get Maybellines around in Singapore anymore
even though its a wonderful drugstore brand that's widely and easily available elsewhere
so I really treasure whatever Maybellines that come my way.

Steph, thanks again for this one =)

Here's the swatch of it.
Pls pardon the tipwear. I had it on for more than a day
and matte polishes aren't exactly lasting.

Warning: Diaster nail pic ahead

Continue at your own peril

ok, don't say I didn't warn you
but I just did the ugliest nail art on tues night

Took out my acrylic paint set to play with for the 1st time
Had a lovely idea of painting waves as tips
and then going over with a semi-sheer polish
so I picked up the bottle of OPI Twinkling Lights in the untried stash

and this is the ugly diaster that I ended up with:

Opulent Cloud

I had Sally Hansen's Opulent Cloud for my last day at school mani
I can see why its such a hit!
It's just keeps changing colours!
Its grey, purple, silver, gold, olive!
I took plenty of pictures; turned my hand this way and that, in the shade, under different sunlight intensity...

Oh well... you guys see for yourself.

Bottles used in this set of nail art:
Estessimo TINS 012 The Happy Milk,
Sally Hansen Opulent Cloud
